    Default Went to the dietician today

    Well, I finally made it to the dietician today and she has me on a revised Mediterranean Diet and also on a meal supplement called UltraMeal. I'm going to start it officially tomorrow, but I tried the meal replacement (its powdered to make shakes with) and it is not the best thing I've ever tried, but it did fill me up. I got the mocha flavor and it tastes okay at first but has a chalky aftertaste. They also gave me some recipes and ideas to add fruit and things like that to it to make it taste better, so I think I'm going to have to try that tomorrow.

    She also told me that I need to be eating about 1600 calories a day(which is more than what I have been eating), and instead of counting calories, I am supposed to just choose certain foods from a list and eat the recommend servings that she gave me. It sounds simple enough now that i have it in black and white what i am supposed to eat, I just hope this works!

    This is what she told me to eat a day from each list:

    2 scoops medical ultrameal 2X a day

    3 serv. lean protein (fist size)

    2 serv. legumes (3-4oz not gonna happen)

    atleast 4 servings of Veggies in category 1 (non root veggies) but can have unlimited amounts

    3 cups of fruit

    1 grain (fist size)

    1 serv from veg 2 category (root veggies)

    no dairy (since i'm lactose intolerant)

    4 tsps of fat

    1 serv of nuts/seeds

    100oz of water

    I also have a list so I know which foods I can choose from.


    They also did a battery of tests and an EKG, (which came back fine, thank goodness, because my mom has CHF) and they are going to have me do lab work and come back in two weeks to see how I am doing and meet with the doctor. Oh yeah, and apparently, I'm half fat, not the best news I've heard, but you gotta start somewhere.

    She also told me that I am supposed to be drinking about half my body weight in ounces of water, so I'm suppose to start drinking 100oz of water a day! That just seems next to impossible for me to do, but I'll try.


    As of today, I've lost 10 lbs in the last 10 days, so i must have been doing something right! If anyone has any questions about the mediterranean diet, I would be more than happy to share any bit of info I have.

    10 lbs in 10 days? Wow! That's great! I do have a question though. What's a medical ultrameal?

    I want to know about the medical ultrameal too. What is that exactly? Is that part of the diet or was it formulated by your dietician?

    The medical Ultrameal is kind of like slimfast and other dietary supplement drinks. Its this powered mix that is loaded with vitamins and other supplements and has like 15 grams of protein. I'm supposed to take it in place of one meal and then as a snack later in the day.

    This is what it says on the label : Ultrmeal is a medical food formulated to nutrionally support the management of conditions associated with metabolic syndrome, such as central obesity, insulin resistance, and altered body composition. Ultrameal has been demonstrated to have a low glycemic index (referenced against glucose) and has been clinically tested and shown-along with a healthy dietary program and regular exercise- to support a healthy body composition by targeting fat loss and helping to maintian lean muscle.

    The dietician said that it is different

    That's a good way to lose weight. And considering that your dietitian suggested that as an alternative should tell you that it is safe and for the best of your health. Drinking water that is half your body weight is really difficult though . I am issues with drinking enough water that my body needs. I have managed to increase the volume of my water intake though.

    Thanks for giving us more info about Ultrameal kbrown8. That is just great if a person can lose weight that fast in a safe way. Although I believe that there is a catch and that is for the food to not taste the same. You'll be okay . Great job and we hope to hear more great news from you soon!

    I think anyone would be up to that too if you can indeed lose weight that fast the healthy way. I think you still need to exercise though since the our body needs it as much

    Great info kbrown8! I haven't heard of Ultrameal before so I was curious. I'm happy for you. Losing 10 pounds in 10 days is HUGE . For sure many of our members are visitors would love to try that too. Why was it recommended by your dietician though if you don't mind me asking?
