I was not happy with my weight before until I finally decided to count my calorie intake to lose weight. Sometimes when we say dieting, we associate that with starving ourselves which is not a good practice. You eat twice as more as you normally do when you are starved. Take it easy and do not be too hard on yourself. Nobody loses weight overnight. Take it one day at a time and try to control your hunger one craving at a time . Then record or make a journal of your achievement. Write which food you avoided eating and how you feel about it. That will better help you understand and appreciate your effort and will make you do better the next day. When you feel like eating, drink a glass of water, sleep, or watch a movie. Believe me it works as the craving only lasts for a few minutes. Do not feed your hunger all them time. identify what you feel if you're really hungry or you just miss eating. Get comfort from other things and stop getting it from junk foods. Cut a little of your calorie consumption every week so you barely notice it. Avoid eating too much sweets and sodas and you will lose weight slowly, but it will make you feel good.

I totally agree with you on that Amapola! I always make sure to eat fruits when I crave for food. If I really need to eat and there are no fruits around, I eat wheat bread or oatmeal cookies. Over eating is not going to hurt your waistline if you skip the junk and go with healthy foods. Of course we have to make sure that we give our body enough exercise that it needs not only to get energized but to burn those extra calories.

Right! Like I said as long as you avoid preservatives, sodas, and sweets, you will be alright. It's all about balancing your food and make sure that you also drink lots of water to cleanse your body of toxins.

I agree.. Drinking plenty of water help stop food cravings. I know it's difficult to break the habit or addiction and it takes a lot of discipline and self control in order to get over it. Good luck!

I've read articles lately and it says Atkins diet is bad for the heart and increases cholesterol levels. If that's the case, if you are hypertensive or have a bad heart, this is not the best diet to choose.

Actually, research over the last 10 years has proved this to be false...but despite that, the ADA and AMA refuse to change their stance. You might check out "The Great Cholesterol Con" by Malcolm Kendrick. The copy editor did a poor job, but don't hold that against the author.

A 5 year study concluded last summer showed that people on a low carb/high fat diet (Atkins) improved their lipid profiles by twice what the low carb/low fat people did...and lost more weight.

After reading Kendrick's book (and a few others), it's a bit horrifying how the medical community came up with the ideal lipid profile...and how little some of those numbers mean.

    Just food for thought.

Default I think I'm like you

I lost 20 pounds in a month's time and was really proud of myself. HOWEVER, i am recently stressed out by my studies and exams that i started crazy eating. Like you, food is always on my mind and I would be ashamed of myself but i still eat non stop. I gained 20+ pounds and feel miserable. I know i have to put an end to it but stress is pulling me away from my determination. Right now, I'm fighting my weight like you

I will seriously control myself because I dont want to have this bad cycle for the rest of my life! We have to support one another because this would be really tough and thats why i'm here! Diet forum can keep me motivated

I hope both of us can put an end to our food addiction for good. Never give up

I love food too and I am also trying my hardest to keep a healthy eating habits but failing a lot of times. But like you said I will never give up. I will keep it slow and make sure that I keep the weight off . Wish me luck!
