Default how to do the atkins diet?

Basically for two weeks you only eat protein..things liek meat, cheeses, eggs, veggies, salad with ranch or blue cheese, omlets things like that..absolutely NO sugar, bread, tortillas, pretty much anything you actually like.. and then after the 2 weeks you will move into another phase. You can stay on phase one for as long as you like because thats how you lose the most weight and the fastest but there are other phases 4 to be exact where you can start incorporating more carbs like berries and other things.... Atkins diet is really hard to stick too but if you can it works extremely well.. it's almost fool proof....
When your body starts to burn fat it takes its time burning the carbs and sugars first in your body....when it doesn't have the sugars and carbs to burn it goes right to the fat..and thats the atkins diet in a nut shell..

You can have dinner for breakfast It's hard to think of things to eat on the atkins diet especially for breakfast... and especially because you don't want to eat tons of bacon and sausage (soo bad for you) When I'm on the atkins diet I usually drink the protein shake drinks..I like Atkins or Edge drings with no carbs.... Don't forget you can eat berries, straw berries, and black berries and raspberries with some sprinkled splenda would make a delicious breakfast..just make sure you are out of phase one...
Dinner any meat and veggies,.... LAst nigth I made the best dinner... I had spaghetti squash, turkey meatball without the bread crumbs and lo sugar spaghetti sauce...so yummy and healthy I also put zucchini in the sauce.. For lunches usually chicken salad with ranch or ceaser salad.. Normally those salads would be really fattening but you can eat then on atkins....you can also have fish, pork, cheese....You have to get really creative and find recipes online..good luck

The first thing you should do is get his book. I recommend the 1972 edition (Amazon) since later editions have been compromised. The following comments are based on the '72 edition.

The induction period (first two weeks) is nothing but protein and 2 cups of salad type vegies (lettuce, celery, radishes...there are more...check the book) per day. After the first two weeks, you can add in other green vegies. Atkins recommends you stay at this level as long as you want to lose weight.

When you get to maintenance you can start adding in more carbs from low carb fruits (e.g. berries), but he is very clear that you do not need to and that you need to still keep your carbs below 60gm per day. He does not recommend ever adding in grains and starches again since this starts the carb cravings in most people.

This is pretty much reiterated in Dr. Bernstein's "The Diabetes Solution". Lots of good information even if you are not a diabetic since you may be insulin resistant...which leads to diabetes over time. The CDC estimates that 75% of obese people are actually insulin resistant. So something to consider.

I think I can do this for sure but I just don't have time now to prepare my food because I am too busy. I normally just have oatmeal or wheat bread with coffee and a slice of fruit for lunch. I normally skip breakfast because I get us at 9am. I know it's bad and I need to do a better job if I want to lose weight. For dinner I normally have rice, deep fried tofu with veggies or chicken stew and yogurt for dessert. I don't consume that much food during the meal but in between that's where I eat bread sticks, crackers and have coffee or juice. I think I like Atkin's philosophy and I will surely try it out when I am able to manage my time well. Thanks for giving us a clear picture of what we can expect from this diet.
