    Default New Atkins Diet

Atkin's Diet has been revamped and is now called The New Atkins Diet. I was just wondering,

Why was there a need to change the guidelines for this diet? What is the difference between the two? Which is more effective?

The New Atkins Diet has more protein on their meal plan compared to the original. Also, if you reached your goal weight, carbs like rice, pasta, bread and potatoes can be put back on the menu.

At least this is better..but I'm not into high protein diets.. I would love to eat meat everyday but I prefer my diet now.. I've already gotten used to it.

Nope.. No meat for me... No animal meat that is.. I only eat once or twice a month.. I'm trying to eat more vegetables and fruits since I can eat a lot and the calories aren't too much..

This program has high protein but its not a diet its a total body nutritional internal cleanse, it has helped me reach my goal, and the shakes taste awesome they
fill you up so you don't feel hungry, and when you cleanse you feel amazing thats when you lose most of your weight and this cleanse is really easy to do.

That's good to hear although I have read an article about the side effects of Atkins Diet.

The American Heart Association states: "Individuals who follow these diets are therefore at risk for compromised vitamin and mineral intake, as well as potential cardiac, renal [kidney], bone, and liver abnormalities overall." Low carb diets like the Atkins diet may also hasten the onset of type II diabetes.
I think as much as many have sworn by this diet program, it's still best to contact your doctor to see if it is safe for you to use it. You may have a health condition that maybe affected by this diet.

I so hate when these organizations make such generalized statements. During the first two 'induction' weeks, carbs are restricted to under 20 and are in the form of salads. After that, Atkins says to start adding carbs back in the form of vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, etc.). This is only their *opinion* based on what they think is a nutritional diet...and without really understanding the Atkins diet. Also, it is a documented fact that, if followed correctly, most type II diabetics end up reversing their diabetes to the point of not needing their medication anymore. Just FYI...the diabetic community is slowly coming around to the fact that a low carb diet is best for controlling Type II diabetics.

Great info CellarElf! I am not aware of how Atkins affect the body and our health because I have not tried any weight loss program, fad diet, or diet pills before. It's good to hear from someone who have tried Atkins and succeeded

It's quite ironic that there is a new version of the diet now that the original creator has died :/ diet reviews

What is even more ironic is that the new owners of the Atkins name are also the owners of the Cinnabon chain. Fatten 'em up and then sell them the diet to get thin. Gotta love it. I don't recommend anyone purchase any book published after 2001, which is when Dr. Atkins died. The books are suspect. I noticed after his death that there was a dramatic increase in pushing the Atkins 'products'. I follow his 1972 version which I think is a much cleaner way of eating. It's how I lost my weight and how I keep it off.
