A lot of people think that they can diet without getting exercise.
The truth is - yes, you can. The problem is that usually the results
are only short-term.

There are numerous studies that have shown that people who are able
to keep their weight off long-term, are almost always on some kind of
exercise program, or are maintaining a much higher level of physical
activity than before they lost their weight.

If you are losing (or trying to lose) weight, and don't know where to
begin, I usually tell my clients to start a walking regimen. Walking is
great. It is low-impact, you can walk faster as you get physically
stronger, and you will burn calories.

So, it is possible to lose weight without the exercise, but to keep your
weight off in the long run, you need to "Get Physical"!

I was just noticing, when viewing some post replies, that people may not always be aware of their eating habits.

One place where people tend to eat a lot (and drink a lot) is when they are watching television. Often, this happens in bed, because so many people have the TV's in their
bedrooms. What happens? Grab the chips and soda. Sandwich and beer. Whatever it is, late at night is probably the WORST time to eat. Hard on the heart and other systems.
No calories get burned, and so many people end up keeping the antacid companies in business.

I got rid of the TV in my bedroom years ago. I actually do not watch TV except for a movie on DVD now and then. If I eat while I watch, it is usually my dinner that I would eat anyway. Mostly, I eat at a dining table with no television.

When I watch the movie, I am usually doing something with my hands, like origami, drawing, or writing. I have found that this not only keeps my eyes occupied (the movie),
but also my hands so that I don't want to keep putting things in my mouth.

I also just started a blog here called "Health Wise". If you can find it, check it out and let
me know what you think.

I am new to the forum and new with this blog. I just wanted to invite anyone and everyone who is interested in losing weight to join me here for my (hopefully) at least once-a-week posting.

First, let me say that over 35 years ago I managed to lose more than 40 pounds. I have kept it off ever since. I had to find my own way of doing things. Once I did, it was much easier going. (notice I said easier).

I have been helping people ever since, to find solutions to their weight loss problems. Hopefully, I will be able to help a few people here.

My first tip is: Be aware of yourself, your surroundings, what you eat, when you eat, how you eat, and even why you eat. Only then will you be able to gain some understanding about your eating behaviors.
Always begin - at the beginning!

If you had known me while in my college years, I wouldn't dream of having to write this, let alone be "sweating" my current shape. Yes, I'd heard it all before: "as you get older, you can't burn calories like you used to... Alcohol doesn't help a diet.....the stress of a career along with a lack of sleep, blah, blah, blah..." Well, here I am... Weighing in at 245 and constantly running out of gas. I am my worst fear.

As I type this, I've realized that I've come to the last straw on fighting my over-eating and bulging belly. Perhapas by discussing it freely and putting it out there, I will find the strength to move foward and find progress.

I guess the first step in this process is to identify my self-perceived problem. I'm a classic emotional eater. Some folks don't eat when they get stressed, but I eat MORE...way more. I travel a lot for my job and being in hotels away from my wife isn't easy, especially when you are blessed with the, "emotional gene." I find that when I have too much time, I eat (not because I'm hungry) too much.

So, here is what my current diet looks like:
Morning - black coffee (multiple cups)
Snack - two granola bars
Lunch - skipped mostly or granola bars
Snack - granola bars
Dinner - Subway or Quizznos w/ chips and drink

I know....I know..... I've identified that my diet needs help so here is where I'm seeking help. I don't cook breakfast or pack a lunch... I'm seeking simple and fast ( I travel). Suggestions?

My gym is another story.... I go, although it really doesn't matter. I spend no more than 30 minutes on the cross-country machine and leave. I tell myself that I'm doing well, but I seldom sweat and get my heart rate up. I'm thinking about running again even though it's hard on my knees. Is there a quick workout regiment that will get my heart rate up and only takes 30 minutes?

Oh, I almost forgot my worst vice - WINE. If red wine is good for the heart, then I'll have the strongest heart in Oregon. My wife and I drink a lot of wine and a bottle a night is not too far off.

So, here I am... exposed and now familiar with my 800' elephant. Looking for advice and support.

P.S. is it wrong that my chin has sweat under it?

How to Still Eat Your Favorite Foods While Losing Weight

What makes a diet stop working? What causes a man or a woman go on a diet, full of good...

How to Still Eat Your Favorite Foods While Losing Weight

What makes a diet stop working? What causes a man or a woman go on a diet, full of good intentions, only to discard the diet in a few weeks or months?

Is it discipline? Frustration? A lack of effectiveness? According to nutrition and fitness author Jon Benson, it comes down to one word: "Love."

"Love is the key to staying on a diet, a workout plan... anything that requires a change of lifestyle. It may seem obvious, but unless you actually 'love' the diet you are on, there is little chance of you staying on it for very long," says Benson. "All diets require a change in how you look at food, how you consume food, and even how you think about food. The problem is most diets make too many demands of the dieter right off the bat. They tell you not to eat certain foods, sometimes making that a permanent restriction, while allowing perhaps a day per week to 'overeat' your favorite foods."

"This is a disaster waiting to happen... and there is a much more balanced, healthy and effective way to diet than this," states Benson.

Ten years ago Benson was a somewhat typical American male: Overworked, over-stressed, and overweight. Benson's weight put him officially into the "obese" category and brought with it all the associated disease states such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides (a type of blood fat) and of course massive amounts of "stress fat" around the belly and chest region.

When Benson decided enough was enough, he, like so many others who are truly ready to change their body and their life, went a bit overboard. "Oh sure, I ate the typical dry chicken, oatmeal with nothing on it, bland rice, and tried to never eat anything I actually enjoyed. Lucky for me I actually love chicken, but most of my diet was composed of what I call my "hate foods", not my love foods -- foods I truly enjoyed eating. But my thinking was just like that of the typical dieter: 'If I eat (fill-in-the-blank favorite food) I'll get fatter and never lose weight!' How wrong I was... and after I started and stopped my diet at least ten times during a course of three years I finally got the message."

Benson decided to use his nutritional knowledge and his background in body shaping to his advantage. "I started thinking, 'Why not focus on progress rather than perfection?' Again, this seems like common sense, but most dieters are focused on being perfect all the time. So I began applying some old body shaping tricks to my dietary plan. For example, I started cycling my calories. I would eat more on one day, less on another. This kept my metabolism guessing and never allowed my body to hit that dreaded 'no more weight loss' plateau."

"Then I decided to push the envelope. I started experimenting with including my favorite foods -- pizza, pasta, and even desserts, all in reasonable quantities -- on my higher-calorie food days. At first it didn't work out too well. But then I used what I now call my "Caveman Principle" which involves strategically eating protein at specific times with a bit less food volume (and this allowed me to stop counting calories too!) and then including my favorite foods on specific days and, most important, specific times. Timing in this case is everything."

Benson says this timing includes both time of day as well as eating higher-calorie, higher-fat, higher-carbohydrate foods only after exercise. "Specific exercise, done for short periods of time, can set the body up to receive additional calories and carbohydrates more effectively without storing them as body fat. You just have to have to know when to do it. Do it right and it works like a charm."

"The end result was a loss of over 70 pounds of fat, and I never gave up eating my favorite foods... not once, but at least three times a week."

A study conducted at the University of Phoenix could shed some light on why this approach to dieting may work better than traditional "calorie-counting" and overly-restrictive foods plans. People given the option of eating more frequently versus three meals a day ended up eating smaller servings of both healthy foods and, on some days, "junk foods" yet still lost more weight than the three-meals-per-day group. The evidence pointed toward the elevation of the metabolic rate through frequent eating and the psychological ease of being less restrictive regarding foods consumed.

"I believe food should be enjoyed, and in my opinion life is way too short to worry about eating perfect all the time," says Benson. "When I crafted this approach into what is now known as "The Every Other Day Diet", it became an overnight smash, and for good reason... it gave people a chance to have a life while they are losing weight. Let's face it: Anyone can diet for a day or two, and that's basically what The Every Other Day Diet asks of its users. Of course you cannot go hog wild on your Feed Days (the higher-calories favorite food meals) but just knowing your favorite foods are always just around the corner keeps you on the weight loss track."

"The end result is a diet that just about everyone can fall in love with. Loving your diet is the key to dietary success, as I said. And I do happen to love me some pizza! I just use that pizza now to actually help me lose weight rather than gain it, all while staying in good health."

Click http://www.everyotherdaydiet.com/go/skets/video to watch a presentation on Jon's "Caveman Principle" of eating and why it works so well for hundreds of thousands of people for fast, sustainable, and enjoyable weight loss.

You can start the process of weight loss now by adding a little more activity to your life. If you’re not ready for a structured program, start small. Every little bit counts and it all adds up to burning more calories.

*eat healthydiet-food with you’r family start small and easy easy we will change you’re life for ever

* Turn off the TV. Once a week, turn off the TV and do something a little more physical with your family. Play games, take a walk…almost anything will be more active than sitting on the couch.

* Walk more. Look for small ways to walk more. When you get the mail, take a walk around the block, take the dog for an extra outing each day or walk on your treadmill for 5 minutes before getting ready for work.

* Do some chores. Shoveling snow, working in the garden, raking leaves, sweeping the floor…these kinds of activities may not be ‘vigorous’ exercise, but they can keep you moving while getting your house in order. http://healthydeit-food.com/

i know i don't exactly need to "lose weight." however! i can openly admit ive always had issues with believing i look good, due to not FEELING good.
i once fit into a size 1 jean. of course, that was in 8th & 9th grade and i don't expect to fit into them once more. but what i do expect is to fit comfortably in my 2/3's.
after i quit dance from high school, i gained close to 25bls, putting me into a size 6 jean which was HUGE for me. im 5 feet tall and have a very petite build. considering my size, i should be at about 115lbs, and i weigh 123lbs or so. knowing i should lose about 8-10 lbs, i needed a quick way to do so because of my lack of time to put into exercize. i have a very very busy life, so eating HORRIBLY is easy for me to do. ive done diet fads before but none have working. the new one im trying, hopefully will.

day #1: my first day of hydroxycut max for women. took 1 pill in the morning and ate a bowl of special k after. i felt fine and was so surprised by the energy surge i received! i LOVED it. i then had a banana for a snack, followed by another bowl of K for lunch. i got to school around 5 and by 6 i had a granola bar with yes... poptarts :(. i couldnt help it. i had HUUGGGEE energy drop and could BARELY keep my eyes open. i then took my second pill and felt fabulous. im a little nervous about the "down" i get from the hydroxycut... but we'll see. i then around 11 (because of st pattys munchies) proceeded to eat 2 pieces of pizza and some howie bread!! over all, i did bad. it was very half and half. im pretty disappointed because of how great i started off and how terribly i ended.

day #2: i got decent sleep last night. only about 5 hours which isn't the best, but could have been worse. i think i might be taking the pills wrong. am i supposed to take them BEFORE or AFTER i eat? i've been taking them before/during. i took my flinstone vitmin, had a chocolate protein shake and took my pill. all around 8-9am. i already have once full bottle of h20 down and we'll see how the rest of the day goes. i PLAN on having my second protein shake for lunch with a strawberry nutri-grain bar & for dinner, hopefully a chicken salad? my goal is to have NO VENDING MACHINE snacks from school. ill let you know how i did!
