Default Too Much Soy Protein Affect Fertility?

I read an article about the negative effects of too much soy protein intake. Here is what it says:

There have been a number of recent studies that have investigated the possible effects of soy protein on fertility. Nutritionists have been praising soy protein for years because it provides a low-fat source of protein that is a viable alternative to the consumption of meat products. Vegetarians and vegans rely heavily on soy products for day-to-day protein sustenance. Fertility implications involving diets high in soy protein have been observed in animal populations. In humans, there have unfortunately been only a handful of studies that have delved into the effects of soy proteins and phytoestrogens on humans. For women, a study conducted in the UK involved a group of premenopausal women who consumed 60 grams of soy protein per day for 30 days. The study found that the women experience significant effects. Although none of the women in the study failed to ovulate during the 30-day period, levels of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone, both of which are integral in reproduction processes, were reduced as much as 50%. Though the study only lasted for one month, these side effects lasted for three months following, making the likelihood of longterm complications as a result of these changes in hormone levels possible.

This is really a bad news because many are opting for soy protein because it's a low fat source but with this report, many will be discouraged

Really? I haven't heard of that yet but I think that really is a bad news. I am lactose intolerant and I use soy milk as an alternative. Thanks for sharing this with us. I am really shocked

That is really not good. My friend is also lactose intolerant so she uses soy milk. It's so nice to know this. I always thought that soy is healthy. Does that also mean that the soy sauce also has health risk?

I have heard of that before too that's why I am very much cautious when eating/consuming soy. Although I must say that I love tofu so much which is also made from soy. Keeping our consumption of any food in moderation should be observed because too much of anything is not good too.

You are absolutely right kathy. Anyway we cannot consume that much soy product to be worried about its side effects. I do love tofu as well because it is a good source of protein and has fewer calories. Soya milk are also delicious and I like it as well, although I must say I still prefer fresh milk

I am lactose intolerant so I really drink more soy milk unless I eat cereals . Soy milk has a different taste and smell that I think will not complement well with cereals when consumed together. However I don't drink them everyday so I shouldn't be worried either as well.

I read that too much soy increases estrogen levels and testosterone levels will drop. Testosterone helps build stronger and bigger muscles especially for men and women, if estrogen levels are high, makes you retain more water and fat.

I also did a bit of research and I've read that despite these side effects, soy is beneficial to women in menopause. Soy increases estrogen levels so it helps balancing them out. You only experience side effects if you eat too much of it. Too much of everything is never good so you can still keep eating soy as long as you eat them in moderation.

Oh yeah, just to answer my own question
Does that also mean that the soy sauce also has health risk?
, yes, soy sauce is included. However, I do agree with mikaela. Everything should be in moderation regardless on what you eat. Soy also has health benefits so it's not all bad to included this in your diet once in a while.

Nice information. Small information can also make a lot of difference to someone's lifestyle.
