The real trick is learning to control your "small" meals both in calories consumed and the time between meals. One way is to eat nothing but raw vegetables between your 3 main meals. That way your stomach gets a chance to shrink and need less food to be satisfied. There is definitely an acclimation period to establishing eating habits of this type.

One is that the energy required to digest food is one of our largest energy expenditures so if you keep the meals low in calories (think raw vegetables and other high fiber foods) your body will burn more fat for energy than it is getting from the food you just ate. Keeping your gut digesting throughout your day with frequent, small meals keeps that energy expenditure operating all day long.

The other advantage is that smaller meals allow your stomach to shrink so you will feel satisfied faster. It may take a few days for your stomach to shrink so be patient and pay close attention to the signals it gives you on when it is full. You will be surprised how little food it eventually takes to satisfy your cravings.

These are absolutely so true. You just made us all understand how important it is to eat small but frequent meals a day. You explained how it is supposed to help lose more weight compared to just eating 3 regular meals! Thank you so much!

Yeah I agree. What I knew about eating 5 - 6 small portion meals wasn't enough. Now I do understand better why we need to eat small and that's to keep the stomach from working

I agree this post is really good. I do like my vegetables rarely stir fried in olive oil or butter because the fiber is so rich and I can feel the heat of the veggies when I eat them. Thanks for this amazing post drheil! Good job!

The main thing is to get used to eating less and moving more. All of the "Tricks" in the world will not help unless a person actually takes control of their eating habits. All of these suggestions are great starts and good ideas. Most are even healthy. The caveat: unless you keep doing these things, and paying attention to the rest of what goes into you, there is that chance that some weight may creep back onto those bones. Make these things habits and the weight will stand a much better chance of being lost - FOREVER!

You have a great point there fhp! The pills may help you lose the weight but you may suffer from its side effects later on. If you want to lose weight the healthy way, observe a balanced diet and get that body moving. Malling or going window shopping is a great exercise. Walking around for an hour will help your body burn 300 calories a day.
