Default Are you ready to lose weight?

I read an interesting blog from mayo clinic and I think first time dieters or those considering to enter a weight loss program should ask themselves these questions:

    1. Are you motivated to make long-term lifestyle changes that require eating healthy foods and exercising more?

    2. Have you addressed distractions in your life that could affect your commitment to a weight-loss program?

    3. Do you accept that there's no quick fix? Healthy weight loss takes time (around 1 to 2 pounds a week). Don't expect to lose more than that.

    4. Have you resolved any eating disorders or other emotional issues that make it difficult for you to achieve a healthy weight?

    5. Are you ready to change your eating habits?

    6. Are you motivated to get more physically active?

    7. Are you realistic about your weight-loss goal?

    8. Do you have family and friends to support your weight-loss efforts?

    9. Do you have time to keep records of your food intake and physical activity?

    10. Are you willing to look at past successes and failures in weight loss and other areas of your life?

    11. Do you view a healthy-weight program as a positive experience?

If you answered YES to all questions, then you are ready to make life changes to achieve permanent weight loss. If you answered NO to one or more questions, you may not be ready yet. Resolve the things that might interfere with your weight loss before you start.

That's a really good post, thank you Completely agree; it's a shift in paradigm that is needed and not a quick fix!

That's right. Dieting requies a lot of commitment so you need to be free from all distractions in life. Most of the time, our personal problems are making us fat. We all know how.

Yeah definitely. Most dieters want to lose weight fast and get disappointed if they don't see fast results. It's a long process and it takes a lot of self control. If you haven't been eating healthy, you will have difficulty changing your eating lifestyle. You have to be focused and determined to be healthy to be able to succeed.

My cousin had a hard time dieting and changing his eating lifestyle because he was so used to eating junk foods, sweets, and proceed foods. When his labs went up, he had to do something and avoid the unhealthy foods. He suffered from withdrawal symdrome and struggled to avoid the foods he was used to eating easpecially the fatty ones. We had to have like an intervention and distract him to help him get through it. It was hard but he is slowly recovering.

That's also my case, I have a disorganised lifestyle and I try to get new eating style, I do it for few days but then everything changes in my daily activities and I can't keep the strict healthy diet.

It's really not easy to change your eating lifestyle that's why taking it slow is the way to do it. I have been trying for long and have gained the weight I lost because I can't keep up with healthy eating. My body is craving for sweets and I have to fight so hard but still lose. That's when I decided to take it slow but a sure process of weight loss. I slowly change the food I eat and slowly add more time to exercising. I don't want to push myself too much because if I feel obligated I normally lose it.
