What you have accomplished is just amazing CellarElf! That is really commendable because we all know that losing weight and keeping it isn't very easy. What would you suggest to someone who wouldn't want to follow any fad diet but want lose weight and maintain it?

Absolutely! I lost 35lbs and that wasn't easy at all. Especially maintaining it for 3 years. You should be very proud of yourself. Please share us more of your diet knowledge and help the others lose weight the healthy way

Well if they're interested in the Rice Diet, just as I said in another thread regarding Atkins, they should get the book "Rice Diet Solution" and read it. It's not a fad diet at all but it is a low fat, low calorie, mainly vegetarian diet. Like any diet it will be successful for some and not others. The trick is finding something we can live with the rest of our life.

I do know that the only way I overcame my obesity was to stop looking at these things as 'diets' and start looking at them as a permanent way of eating if I wanted not only to lose the weight, but to keep it off. I have a relative who has lost 100+ pounds on Weight Watchers...several times...and then regains it all back when she goes 'off' the 'diet'. She'll continue this cycle, IMHO, until she realizes that it's not a diet but needs to be a way of life.

Until Atkins, I failed at every diet I ever tried. Mainly because I did look at them as something temporary "just until I lose the weight" because they just weren't compatible with my lifestyle. With Atkins I could eat out and didn't have to worry about calories or counting points. I'd just order a caesar salad, hold the croutons and a grilled chicken breast (or steak). At home I'd keep hard boiled eggs and hard cheese in the fridge just in case I was too busy to cook and needed to grab something.

I know I'm probably repeating this too often but it's so important. There is no one perfect diet or way of eating for all of us. We are unique individuals with individual requirements. So find the tool you can work with...and then work it...and it should be something you can live with for life.

Great point CellarElf! Go with the weight loss program that you feel comfortable with and works for you because until you do you will not be happy with your progress

It's the one you can stick with long term.

Rice can give you a lot of carbs which is bad for diabetes. But if you can't help it, make sure that you take half cup of rice only for each meal.
