I would like to start by saying that I didn’t know this site was popular. It is the second forum I have ever joined the first was on a dare and I have never been back. I choose not to depend on technology and in fact choose not to depend on medications either. I find that they tend to block what your body is trying to tell you. I believe that balance is the key to being healthy. You want me to share my knowledge so here it is.

I have an eating disorder. I am a binge eater, complete with fasting periods. Food is my heroin. The difference between food and drugs is that you can stop doing drugs but you cant stop eating. Some binge eating disorders are accompanied by purging with laxatives or vomiting, others like mine are accompanied by days of fasting. Fasting is abstaining from either all food and drink or only some foods and drink. I am proud to say I have my binging and fasting mostly under control but it is a constant battle. You say that fasting is good for you but I can tell you that continual fasting like what is advocated in cleanse diets is not. I started fasting four years ago as a “safe” way to lose weight and get healthy after particularly bad binges and gained 50lbs. I was tired all the time, yet I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t focus and ended up walking away from the one thing I always loved to do….learn. It was only when I decided to stop binging and fasting that I started to lose the weight, I wasn’t tired all the time anymore and I was finally able to sleep again.

It was at this time that I began looking into the effects fasting can have on the human body. I also learned what the body does when you eat too few calories a day, which prolonged fasting and shake diets and cleanses teach.
When you first start eating too few calories your body loses water, this happens no matter how much water you drink. After this happens lean tissue begins to be used up as fuel and only after the body has used up as much as it can does it go on to adipose or fat tissue. So in reality most of the initial weight you lose on low cal diets whether they are shake diets or just eating less is not fat it is muscle and water. And to add insult to injury when you start eating “normally” or even anything more then what you have been eating you gain the weight back because your body thinks it just went through a famine and stores as much of the new fuel as fat just in case it has to function without enough fuel again.

I would like to finish by saying I find your obvious dislike of the government fascinating and “loathe completely” comes to mind when reading your views on the medical field and the FDA. What disgusts me though are your views on cancer research. That research saved my grandma’s life seven years ago when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. If it wasn’t for the medication and treatments she received she would be dead now.

One final note, have faith in your fellow man they are more intelligent then you seem to be giving them credit for.

That was a pretty interesting post and it illustrates how we are coming at the same problem from opposite directions.

The fasting recomended by Isagenix is not prolonged. In general it amounts to one day a week. That doesn't hurt anyone and does help.

The two day fasts are for a controlled period only. So they are no prolonged either and also provide great benefit.

Longer fasts than that need to be supervised by an expert. When I was doing prolonged fasts I was never able to find anyone who knew more than I did about fasting to supervise my fasts. So I did my fasting and supervised myself and following your advice - listened to my body. I experienced great benefits from fasting and never became a binge eater or a chronic faster.

My intent was research into cause and effect. I wanted to learn and that was more important to me than over-eating.

However, like you, eating too much of the wrong things lead to my interest in nutritional healing in the first place. Following doctors' orders nearly killed me in 1978 when I started bringing up black blood. At that point I decided that the best medical minds available to me were not making things better for me, they were making them terminally worse. It was time to manage my own health.

I started with Iridology because that was where I found the first common sense explanations about how our bodies are supposed to work. I've read widely on health restoration and medical issues ever since with an emphasis on learning how the foods we eat and the liquids we drink affect physiological performance.

While I was practicing Iridology as a hobby, I examined the eyes of plenty of people. Quite a number of them were being abused by the medical profession. I explained my take on what I believed was happening and advised them to get a third opinion from a doctor and to take my opinion with them. In each case, I turned out to be correct.

Colonic health is the key to health. Any person who handles livestock of any description knows that any discussion of livestock health from fish to race horses starts and ends with a discussion of the shape, smell, texture, content, colour, frequency and timing of bodily exretions of every sort. Human doctors are at the opposite end of the spectrum and never discuss that subject unless they're specifically requested to do so. When they do, it turns out they are for the most part, uneducated on the subject in terms of restoring health. They deal with constipation as an inconvenience most of the time instead of the core issue it is. So just what sort of medical system do we have when the animal doctors are more honest and educated than those who are supposed to be looking after us?

Both my wife and I are cancer survivors. We both owe our lives to modern cancer research and for that we are grateful. However, that does not blind me to the reality that there are staggering, entrenched problems and graft within the cancer research community and it should not blind you either if you are being honest in your approach to your education. If you can't be open to the fact that there are serious problems going on, then you can't be part of a solution to the problem. You will remain in denial. Denial never results in progress.

Fasting is not abstaining from all food and drink. That is starvation. You may do that when you are preparing for a medical proceedure but you don't do that when you are trying to restore health.

Remember what I said about healing with water? Water is the rinse cycle. Water carries away impurities. If there is no transportaton system to dispose of toxins, there is no healing or the healing process is impaired. There are special exceptions to this but all of them are outside the realm of amateurs such as you and I.

When I started learning about nutrition, I had knowledge most practitioners don't have - a knowledge of how a car engine works. Car engines run on the same principle as the human body. To operate at peak efficiency I understood that an engine has to be fed clean fuel on a constant metered basis, be exercised hard, receive regular oil changes and tuned up as needed during periodic check-ups.

You ran your body like a maniac slamming the gas pedal to the floor, then slamming on the brakes. Then pulling your foot off the brake pedal and hammering the gas again - over and over. No car engine could survive that for long and you demonstrated for yourself that you couldn't either. That had to have caused damage to all of your major organs. Repairable but damage nonetheless. It takes a long time to recover from systemic abuse on that scale. Most people have not done anything close to what you've done. You're lucky you're still living.

I have been taking Isagenix products for about two month now. After an initial loss of ten pounds, my weight has stablized and varies only slightly on a daily basis. I am not experiencing any unusal side effects. My overall well-being has improved even though I was already eating a better than average diet.

My attitude towards (Canadian) governments is from a series of criminal investigations into decisions made by those governments. There is no shortage of criminal activity in any government if you know how to identify it.

I don't loathe the medical profession. Only certain aspects of it. My concerns about the medical profession stems from their almost universally abysmal dearth of expertise in the correct applications of foods and water.

What is the use of doing amazing surgeries and then putting the patient on a mucus forming diet that is going to encourage infection? That's like washing your feet and then shooting them with a .303 rifle and then wondering why it hurt!

Or - more to the point - not educating the public properly about the dangers of constipation, then treating constipation with laxatives which are poisons, then supervising colonic death until the person ends up needing a colostomy. That goes on all the time. It's a growth industry. That I loathe. In my view, that is criminal assault and the medical people associated with it should all be locked up.

A lot of good research has gone into diagnostics and surgery for breast cancer. By comparison, almost none has gone into educating the public about how to avoid breast cancer through diet and fasting. Absolutely none has gone into teaching surgery survivors how to eat and drink properly once they've been through the most traumatic surgery they may ever experience. My wife had breast cancer. The surgeon was and is an excellent surgeon. From a nutritional standpoint he is a congenital idiot. Her oncologist was even worse.

Luckily after my wife's surgery I intervened and her recovery was swift and as complete as it can get. Unfortunately she has eating issues just as you do, so every day is like living on a precipice from my perspective.

I have plenty of faith in my fellow man, but I also have decades more experience in dealing with them about nutritional issues than you do. I can't post a link yet because I'm a couple of posts short. But after that, I'll post a link and you can go to a motorcycle site where I posted some nutritional information and you can see for yourself the mentality of the general public. At that point you will be revising your estimate of your fellow man in a steeply downward direction.

Water is not a transportation system. the lymphatic and circulatory systems a are transportation systems water is simply trillions of molecules bonded together by hydrogen bonds.
oh and by the way if I was, now 40lbs, lighter i would be a poster girl for health. i have perfect blood pressure, cholesterol, hormone levels, blood sugars you name it i am perfectly healthy.
i use to work the night shift at a downtown 7-11 i know the lows, i used to see them every night. i still think that the general public are smart enough to understand basic concepts and frankly im beginning to think that perhaps you need to switch from "helping people" to something else because you cant help people if you don’t think they can “get it“.
Proper diet and fasting doesn’t stop cancer, cancer results from certain chemical signals in the cell cycle not working. Though environment plays a good role, mostly its due to the millions upon millions of cell divisions that take place in you body every day. All it takes is one cell dividing wrong and not being destroyed by your bodies fail safe systems.
Frankly if you eat well you don’t need to fast, and if you do it shouldn’t be once a week because that is considered chronic fasting. At most it should be once a month, anything more and you are messing up your bodies metabolic rate. If you eat well then your bodies organs don’t need any help, they are highly evolved and very good at what they do.

I was refering to water as a transportation system in the same way you would refer to a body of water such as a river, creek or stream rather than talk about a river bed, creek bed or stream bed.

As for your extra 40 pounds, I'm sure with some serious exercise you'll knock that off without difficulty and achieve your poster girl status. I really hope you do after all this effort.

The thing is, more than food, exercise is the determinant as to how much extra weight you carry. If you look at occupations, you'll notice that in some there are virtually no overweight people. When I was your approximate age I was a display artist. I did interior and window displays. That involved lots of bending, twisting, lifting, stretching and so on all day. At 5'8" I weighed 135 lbs. I never saw an overweight display person of either sex. Everone was fit. People who do desk jobs or jobs where they are required to stand for long periods in more or less the same place all shift long tend to be overweight and out of shape. In cases like that, weight gain is not just an eating problem, it's a long term workplace accident that results in a wide variety of injuries. Having worked in a SevenEleven, you know what I'm talking about.

Certainly the general public is smart enough to understand basic concepts. But first you have to interest them and you have to keep it simple because their attention span is narrow generally speaking.

I have never claimed that diet or exercise or fasting will cure cancer or stop cancer, but it's a documented fact that healthy cells are less prone to cancer and other degenerative conditions than unhealthy cells. You give your body and each and every cell the best chance for proper operation that you can.

You are entirely right in saying that if you eat well, you don't need to fast - provided that you don't have pre-existing conditions that you are dealing with as I am and as anyone who has eaten a lot of junk food has. You don't clear years of accumulated muck out of your cells in a short period of time and you don't restore colon health quickly either. They take time - years generally.

And yes I do tend to get short-tempered when people start nitpicking while skipping over important questions I ask.

As for the cell division thing, there are plenty of reasons why that happens. Some have to do with poor bowel management and some are environmental. In neither case is the public being given the full story. That is another whole discussion.

You're a good debater. How about answering some of the questions I posed in the last session? What are you going to do with your education? If your courses are as traditional as I think they are, you're going to join the ranks of thousands of nutritional graduates who now know how and why we should eat a balanced diet. You're going to look for work where you try and get paid to tell people how to eat properly - something most of them wrongly think they already know how to do more or less. What will you have that is extra that will make them want to hire you?

Shedding that 40 pounds will turn you into a babe. That could get you in the door at some places. After that, you'd better know something they think they need to know that they can't get elsewhere.

What you won't be able to do unless you do the type of research I've done is tell them the mechanics of bowel management - health restoration techniques using food, water and fasting. That, combined with a product like Isagenix puts you in a position to make some serious money. That is information, when combined with a product, people will pay for. Without the product and system, everyone thinks you just spent thousands of dollars on an education so you can tell them what they need to know for free. I walked that road for the last thirty years. You don't want to walk that same road.

    Default Truth in advertising.

    Meaghan said:

"i am majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology, i know the chemistry of the body and how the body reacts to toxins. and i can tell you i haven’t found a single thing on the website or in the information my mother has that is correct when addressing how the body reacts to toxins...

...I have read all of the information that was supplied to my mother and listened to everything that she was told. I think from my own research, and I have written papers on diets and nutrition for many classes, that what they are selling is not......truthful."

There is no doubt that what Meaghan said here is very important and is central to the entire Weight-loss/Health Products industry. This site would not exist if everything were known about the products and their effects on health. There is a lot of misleading and incorrect information out there and it has to be borne in mind that no matter who is telling you what about any aspect of nutrition, you have to be guided by your own beliefs. To do that well, takes effort and research. Meaghan's experiences even as a registered, paying student of the subject shows all of us just how deep the pitfalls can be. She is not at all unusual in her experiences.

The problem is not so much that the information is wrong in most cases as it is incomplete in so many cases. The trouble with trying to accomplish health restoration or weight loss on your own is that you end up using your own body as a lab rat. Doing so can cause very serious diet induced injuries. No one gets away scot free. Right now, people the world over are coming to realize that the medical communities have been selling them a bill of goods and we're all searching for the golden path back to natural good health.

The problem we all face is that we really need doctors and nutritionists to actually know what they are doing and how to use non-invasive techniques to restore health naturally. But they don't.

All drugs are poisons that work by causing opposite violent reactions to what you are trying to cure. Feeding poisons into your body is inviting other trouble at a later date.

Over the course of a career, doctors and nutritionists see so many patients that they can spot trends. Imagine what could be done if the medical profession actually understood real health restoration! As I said in an earlier post, nutritionists can only say so much because what they say is governed by the medical profession. That's why I never trained to be a nutritionist - I would be condemned to telling people information I knew to be incorrect but that was sanctioned by doctors who had not a day's worth of nutritional eduacation. That's not a pill I could swallow.

Knowing about how the body reacts to toxins and how toxins react to being inside our bodies is useful information we all need to know. But if you spent the rest of your life just reading the names of the different chemicals that have been pumped into the environment over the last fifty years, you'd probably never get to the end of the list, never mind find out what you need to do to protect yourself from each one (if you could).

There is however, plenty of medical literature that is published that describes in detail how our bodies and chemical contaminants react when they meet and over the long haul. That information is available directly from the manufacturers and from retailers who sell the products. But it isn't easy to find without a lot of searching and for most of us, that searching has to be done on the internet.

There is a lot of erroneous information on the net. It can be hard to tell the difference between right and wrong. Where health for living things is concerned, you have always to start at the beginning. The beginning is your colon. If you become an expert about one thing, that is where to start. Once you understand that, everything else will fall into place.

When you hear a doctor saying that everyone is different where bowel habits are concerned, and the doctor is talking to you; get out of there and find yourself a doctor who knows what he's talking about. It won't take long for you to learn the difference between a knowledgeable doctor and a quack.

The best thing to do to learn whether or not what you've found is true is to ask questions. Most people will answer truthfully.

As much as I dislike the FDA and Health Canada, a good part of the reason they are so ineffective and themselves corrupt in many ways, is because of the legislation that governs them and the lobbyists who pay large for access to the ears that matter.

None of the people in decision making positions are experts in health restoration or medical science. Our health care systems at the very top are run by people who have no medical or health education. They are generally bean counters or lawyers. That should tell you a lot about why I distrust both systems. It should also tell you why the medical care systems in both countries are in tatters and about to get much worse regardless of the economy.

Restoring health using natural means that are relatively inexpensive - such as restorative fasting should be put under the microscope and tuned into excellence like a musical instrument.

The art of fasting is just that - an art that can be a hit or miss process for some people. It is not a science but it most emphatically should be.

Until you have seen a proper fast in action and the muck that is thrown off you cannot begin to appreciate the power of a fast.

And it should be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment to produce results that can only be dreamt of today.

What was learned about fasting by luminaries such as Erhet, Jensen and Christoph has been largely lost to time. Erhet's work is mostly in the hands of an old man who is struggling to translate it from German and has been doing so for years. Jensen's work is more modern and can be purchased over the internet. The best one for most people is Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management. Anyone who wants to restore health or lose weight should read that book first.

We need these results today because if we don't all get medically literate soon, there is going to be a multigenerational die-off thanks to the endemic consumption of junk food and the steady destruction of our soils. Soil destruction, primarily is due mostly to four things - urban sprawl, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. Genetic modification will within this generation become factor number five.

The active ingredients in pesticides and herbicides are crude oil based solvents for the most part. These solvents are anti-life and destroy DNA in living tissue whether you're a micro-organism, a bug, a fish, bird, cow or person. Chemical companies and farmers have been actively killing the life in our soils for decades and thus are killing its ability to pass on properties such as minerals to us. Consequently, our plant based foods are measurably less nutritious today than they were even a decade ago. Plus they are contaminated with those chemicals. Oil based chemicals don't just sit on the skin of the fruit or vegetable, they migrate through the skin and into the flesh of the foods. You can't wash these chemicals off.

The micro-organisms in the soil are what translates minerals from their inaccessible form into accessible. Think of earthworms. Dirt is changed as it passes through the digestive system of worms by mixing with digestive fluids and other components. When we kill those organisms, we kill the vital link between us and the earth.

The standards for chemical residue were set before the concept of accumulation was understood. In this context, accumulation means that many chemicals have the ability to persist in our tissues for long periods of time. For life even. While they are there, they are not inactive. They are chemicals and as such continue to act as they were forumulated to do. They don't come with an "off" switch.

Medical researchers could be doing great work by learning how we can best rid ourselves of these chemicals. Fasting is best known and most accessible way. Bear in mind that the technique has to be simple because every living animate thing on the planet has the same problem we do and hardly any of them has access to medical care. That's why the frogs and bees are going extinct. Once they go, there will be a domino effect. Actually, it's already started so we don't have a lot of time to wake up a lot of people.

The real cure of course is to stop burning fossil fuels and spraying pesticides. But how do you do that when the biggest and most common pesticide sprayer is aircraft, automobiles, trucks, ships, trains, houses, factories - in short any man-made machinery or fire that emits Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs)?

I have no ties with Isagnix, but I do have a background in health care. What qualifies you as the arbiter of advice delivered by dietitians and trainers?

Isagenix continues to work for me. Almost 2 years ago, I was 294lbs. Today I am a stable 210lbs, at a height of 6'3, and a body fat percentage that is on the borderline between normal and athletic. I have been this weight now for over 18 months. I have more energy, sleep better, and feel overall far more healthy than I can remember before I cleansed.
What I wanted to contribute to this discussion is that nothing in the Isagenix program includes, advocates, or suggests fasting. On a cleanse day, the body is fed by liquid nutrition 4 times a day, as well as small amounts of protein/carbohydrates/essential fats throughout the day (6-8 times). While the caloric intake is somewhat reduced during this day, this is not fasting, as the body is constantly being supplied with nutrition. This fact is supported by the published, journaled medical study of 100 people who were followed by 4 doctors as they went through the 9 day Isagenix cleanse. Strict measurements were done, and lean muscle mass was maintained throughout by those who were studied. The basis of Isagenix is a very high quality organic non-denatured Whey protein which supports lean muscle. This is why there is typically no rebound weight-gain after someone finishes an Isagenix cleanse program, as there is in other calorie-restricted diets, cleanses, or fasts. Yes, some of the weight lost during an Isagenix cleanse program is water weight (I believe typical results to be about half from water, half from body fat, 0 from lean muscle in terms of percentage). This, however, has been shown to be extracellular water which accumulates in the tissues and does us no good (the theory is that the more toxic we are, the more our bodies hold on to extracellular water (bloating) to dilute the toxins). The point here is that losing this extra water is good for us, and is not weight lost from typical deyhdration (say a sauna for example) which is quickly put back on once the body is re-hydrated. Women generally understand retaining extracellular water, as tends to happen during the menstrual cycle.

The reason I post here is that I was *extremely* against any kind of "cleanse" program before I tried Isagenix. I was closed-minded and considered myself far above being sucked in to some lose-weight-quick scheme. The only reason I tried it was to prove it didn't work to a good friend of mine. I lost 17.5lbs in 11 days, and zero rebound weight gain. I continued to lose steadily to my goal weight, and have maintained that weight ever since.
The fact remains that Isagenix has a full no-question money-back refund policy if someone isn't satisfied with it, and they get a very low percentage of returns. It just plain works. Unfortunately, just like I was, most people are too closed-minded to try it for themselves and see their own results.

Best of luck and continued success to everyone who is on their way to goal weight.

Isn't it sad that the only people critizing the product are people who haven't tried it? Even sadder is that they have clearly done absolutely no research whatsoever... otherwise they would see that the products are all natural, and full of all the vitamins and nutrients your body needs to be healthy - something the average North American IS NOT getting in their daily diet.

In my first 30 days on this product I lost 18lbs, and in total I'm down 32... I've been able to easily maintain this loss for the last YEAR; something I have not been able to do on any "fad" diet. I also have a ton of energy and sleep better... I will never stop using these products.

In order to be helpful to others you should do your research prior to posting a comment. For anyone reading this - don't be deterred, trust the people who know and who have actually used and researched the products. They have made a huge impact on my family (yes, my whole family uses them), and if you have the desire to succeed in your personal wellness, they are definitely worth every penny

I'm on day 2 of Isagenix. I had no opinion beforehand. I know people who swear by it and people who have tried it and didn't get anything out of it. Bottom line; I think you need to stick to it for a lifetime for it to work. If you're willing to change how you eat and live then you'll be fine - just like Weight Watchers. The detox thing? Maybe, maybe not. Jury is out. My sister, who was into cleanses and holistic health, was diagnosed with thymus cancer two years ago. Luckily she's fine now but all the cleansing didn't prevent her health from tumbling.

I will give this a try. Shakes taste horrible and I hold my nose to drink them but I will soldier on. My main reason for paying through the nose and doing this is because I have had no motivation to get my health and weight loss program going. Weight Watchers worked beautifully for me before but since I had my daughter (and two miscarriages prior) I have an extra 15-20 lbs. that make me feel horrible and I have had no will power to diarize and get my head around weight loss per Weight Watchers. I know, from previous experience, that exercise alone does nothing for me. I need to diet as well. I was playing soccer 4 times a week after having my son and nothing budged. Diet and exercise made me drop the weight.

Isagenix costs a bomb and I'm not sold on the claims but it is easier to plan one meal for myself rather than three. Knowing I'm only allowed a shake prevents me from hoovering up the kids' leftovers at breakfast and lunch. It takes the mental side out of the diet and that is something I haven't been able to do on my own. My main challenge will be to keep weight off (assuming I lose!) as I highly doubt the cost of the product and the taste will keep me on it.

I'll let you know how I do.
