    Default Weight Training and Metabolism

Weight depends on the balance of total calories consumed versus total calories burned. If you consume more calories and you gain weight. The opposite happens when you take in less. Metabolism is the process of your body converting food into energy.

Do you know that the amount of calories you burn is determined by three factors? These are:

    • Basic needs
    • Food processing
    • Physical activity

How much calories your body needs is factored by your body size and composition, age, and sex.

Aerobics exercise is a good way to burn calories yet, strength training exercises like weight training is needed because it helps counteract muscle loss and muscle tissue burns more calories. This means that increasing lean body mass increases the metabolic rate. With the faster metabolism comes more fat burning.

It doesn't have to be heavy weights right? That is what amsoftwiz said too that weight lifting is indeed better than aerobics. I'll let my friends know so they try to incorporate weight lifting to their exercise and burn more weight. Thanks for the tips mikaela!

Yeah it doesn't need to be a heavy weight sasa. I am going to lift some weight too and do it in alternate days to make me burn some more calories especially if I occasionally eat junk foods . I do exercise a lot when I consume junk and fast foods to help burn them and ensure that it doesn't get stored in my body

You're right mikaela. Our capacity to burn fats depend on our age, sex, and basic needs. That is also the basis for dieting. Younger people burn and need more calories while growing up because they are more active than adults. Those are also the reasons that we need to consider in choosing a weight loss plan. We need to listen to what our body is saying and what it needs and not only take other people's advice.

You are absolutely right about the muscle mass...
A progressive resistance exercise will build more muscle mass, and it takes about 40 - 50 calories a day just to keep one pound of lean muscle alive.
However when performing continuous exercise such as aerobic, you will burn 5 calories for every liter of oxygen consumed. So - the best results should come from a program that integrates both forms of exercise.
And, you can never go wrong if you participate in sports.
