Cellulite is caused by connective tissue that connects the upper layers of skin to the lower layers. As a person gains weight, the new tissue pushes the upper and lower layers of skin apart, but the connective tissue is not perfectly elastic. It tugs the top layer down much like the buttons on a couch are pulled down by the string coming from below the fabric.
Some people can gain weight while developing relatively little cellulite while others look like they have hail damage even though they are barely overweight. It is genetic because it depends on the amount of connective tissue each person has in his or her skin.
You cannot do much about it except lose weight. That will relax the connective tissue and your skin will become smooth. I am sorry to tell you, there is no other way to deal with this problem. A trainer is an excellent idea, but your workouts should concentrate on weight loss.
