Well, I'm a pescetarian (I don't eat beef, pork, or chicken but I will eat fish) so I'm a bit biased.
Six smaller meals a day is great and that is what I do, as well.![]()
For breakfast, it's great to have some fruit like some apples or berries. Personally, I avoid citrus fruits for breakfast because it gives me a very sour stomach. However, fruits will help cleanse your body out (if you develop a little diarrhea like I did, don't worry. It's just your body cleaning itself. It shouldn't last long though and if it does, see a doctor). Having some water before you eat anything is wonderful as it helps you feel not as hungry. Also, bran and granola is wonderful for breakfast and I always have a glass of Silk chocolate soy milk for the added protein and energy, plus it tastes awesome.
Lunch - Vegetables and rices. It's very important to get enough leafy green vegetables in your diet. Be careful with spinach, though. It's very good for you as it has key nutrients that other veggies don't, although, too much spinach can deplete your body of calcium. Calcium can be found in other leafy greens, dried beans, and soy, as well as some fruits. Be sure you get calcium (don't rely on cow milk, animal protein depletes the body of calcium). I'll also have a little bit of fish with lunch, but mostly it is raw vegetables and wild rice.
Dinner - Fish, tofu (soy), pastas (get the spinach pasta, do not eat flour, white flour is bad for women as it helps us grow yeast which can make us ill and gain weight), rices, vegetables.
Snacks - Grapefruit is a wonderful snack, but again, it can hurt my stomach. Grapefruit has been known to help women lose weight. I like to have some peanuts nearby, although high in fat, it's the GOOD fat that your body needs and they are very high in protein. I like to purchase a lot of my snacks from www.veganessentials.com The food is excellent (I love the protein bars and their soy jerky) and the prices are good, and shipping is excellent. Plus, the foods aren't packed full of nasty chemicals that will make you gain weight. Going organic is a better way to lose weight because a lot of the chems in food help the body gain weight, as well as making you addicted to the food.
If you do eat meat, do not eat a portion larger than the size of your fist and only 1-2 times a week at most. I personally advise at least avoiding pork at all costs. If you love fish, again, be careful as fish has a mercury in it due to pollution, and salmon is the safest fish to eat. Also, you do not have to deprive yourself of yummy snacks. It's okay to every once in awhile have a tiny bit of junk. Again, I go to vegan essentials website and get their organic chocolate. It's so good.
Also, eating healthy is great, but you need aerobic and cardio exercise daily (don't forget to have a day of rest). Take a 45-minute walk every morning or evening and get your heart rate up. Go swimming, hiking, bicycling. Play tag with some friends. Exercise can be a lot of fun. I really love yoga for the mornings as it helps me stretch out for the day and get my blood circulating well. In the evening, long walks are a wonderful way to end your day.
When you do lose weight, you may lose quiet a bit really quickly, but then you'll hit a plateau. Don't be discouraged, your body just needs a boost to get that metabolism back up. Again, just keep working at it and increase those walks or your choice of exercise. Another tip, before you eat your meal, eat a small portion of vegetables (like 2 mushrooms or 2 slices of green peppers...yum) about half an hour before you eat. This will get your digestive enzymes flowing and help your body digest the food easier. Also, eat slowly and be sure to drink lots of water.
Good luck!
