No wonder people in this country are so unhealthy ... even if we wanted to eat healthy everyday, it's too darn expensive.

Fruits and veges are cheap if you dont worry about organic as much. Fake meat is pricey thou.
It depends on what price you put on your health I guess. I have 4 children, we live check to check and I don't have a problem choosing the healthiest foods possible for my kids. The things I look at most are:
No growth hormones in their milk/dairy products.
No hydrogenated fats
No processed or fried foods
All wholegrains + wholegrain pastas - organic if I can get it
Lots of Fresh fruits and veggies - organic if I can get them
Sugar - I try to avoid it, but I don't buy anything with artificial sweeteners either.
There are lots of ways to make your diet extremely healthy that save $ too - like we never eat fast food and we rarely go out. If we order pizza, it's from an authentic Italian Ristorante - it's not much more than any place else. I make big dinners (lasagna, casseroles, quiche, etc...) at home and usually there is leftover for lunch the next day. I'm a vegetarian and by not buying meat all the time for everyone else, I've saved lots and lots. I haven't missed meat at all - it's going on 3 years. My husband has gout, so he can't have red meat or shrimp anyway. The kids eat what we eat. Everyone is happy and it's been a long long time since we've been on antibiotics or down with a virus. I think our diet has everything to do with it. We also use only extra virgin olive and safflower oils when cooking and on salads, pasta, etc... so healthy!
Best Wishes!
Hello:
I agree with you,for healthy foods that are supposed to be better for you, organic foods are so expensive,it is ridiculous! I cannot afford organic foods,so I have to buy regular fruits and vegetables, and I try to wash and scrub them the best that I can. Did anyone ever think that MAYBE if healthy foods were alot cheaper for families to buy, that maybe alot more people would be buying fruits and vegetables?
I would love to buy organic fruits, vegetables, cereals, etc but I refuse to pay a fortune for organic foods when I can get other healthier foods cheaper!
None of that ..!
Your silly enough to buy tomatoes at $3.00lb.
I still pay just over dollar but under $2.
There is NO nutritional difference . .(period)
And,, remember the store has Teminex, Orkin or some insect control.. so do the warehouses and the truck drivers,, so cross off the pesticide half of organic..The grower has no control after the harvest ( and I question that also). so it is just a another marketing advertisement to increase the cost..
if you live in an apartment you lost any argument...
BTW you still wash your food at home RIGHT???
