Default Eating Red Meat Can Increase Risk Of Heart Disease

Here's a qoute from the article I read from Dailymail.co.uk:

Eating red meat twice a day can increase a woman's risk of heart disease by nearly a third, a study has shown.

The study found those who ate two servings of fresh or processed red meat daily were 30 per cent more likely to suffer heart disease than women who ate just half a portion.

Substituting red meat for a serving of nuts cut the risk of heart disease by 30 per cent, eating fish instead lowered the risk by 24 per cent, while swapping red meat for poultry slashed the risk by 19 per cent, the survey also found.

Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, in the U.S., studied the diets of 84,136 women aged 30 to 55 between 1980 and 2006.

During the research period 2,210 suffered non-fatal heart-attacks, while 952 others died from coronary heart disease.

We should not take this warning lightly. Heart disease is very serious and deadly. Eat more fruits and vegetable and reduce your red meat consumption, both fresh and processed.

I'm glad I changed to low meat diet. Eating more fruits & vegetables isn't so bad. In fact, I feel more full and satiated. I feel less guilty too. They are healthy, low calories and low in fat.

I couldn't agree with you more. Vegetables rock!! There are a lot of ways to cook vegetables and sometimes, they taste even better without meat.

That's true. I hope this news would be enough to convince meat lovers to reduce their meat intake. But I was just thinking, maybe if you eat lean meat, the risk won't be that high. Red meats are high in fat so if you remove the fat and cook it in such a way that the fats will be reduced, maybe it won't be as risky.

You have a point viktoria. It's best to consult a nutrionist or dietician about that, just to be sure. Or, they can always reduce their meat intake and eat more fruits and vegetables.
