I have always wondered exactly what all the ingredients mean on the back of the catfood package, what are meat-by-products? How come we cannot feed them regular food? What did they eat when they were living long and healthy in the wild?

No, it is not. The life span of our domestic cats and dogs has gone from 15-20 years down to like 9-12 years, and it is basically becuase we feed them this garbage.
Its easy, and we see so many comercials telling us how good it is for our babies.
Do a search and find out how it's made. You will be so surprised!!!
Table food has too much fat for the most part, lean bits of meat is okay for your kitty.
In the wild, the only vegetation that they eat is a bit of grass now and then. They eat mice, birds, rabbits, bugs, whatever they can catch. All of these critters are lean... not much fat. They crunch up the bones, helps with teeth cleaning and gives them calcium. Raw bones are not brittle like cooked bones.
You can do a search for raw fed cats, and maybe find some information that suits you and your cat.
They weren't living long and healthy in the wild. Domesticated cats live twice as long in a loving home being fed a good nutritious premium brand food such as Blue Buffalo (Spa selects), Avoderm, Pro plan is OK, Science Diet (Natures Best Only.) Not regular Science Diet. By-products are the parts of the animal we do not eat. Its the beak, feet, feathers, head all ground up and baked. And then their is the all time favorite ingredient... CORN!!! This indigestible filler is an excellent money maker and is usually the first or second ingredient in store bought brands such as friskies, Cat chow, 9 lives etc.
Meat by products are ushually sickened diseases animals from zoos, and shelters. You never know what meat yoru getting. rule of thumb. do not get food that lists mystery meats. The best you can feed is a raw meat diet. It's all natural. Be sure to give them chopped poultry(chicken, turkey, quial) hearts once a week since they contains lots of taurine which is vital to a cats health.
