Default How do you deal with your sweet tooth?

This is a big problem for most of us and oftentimes the reason why we gain weight. Now I want us all to share what we do to deal with our sweet tooth so we may help others fight their cravings too.

I have read that if you eat sweets 15 to 30 minutes after meal makes it easier to limit them and and decrease the craving. It has actually helped me in my own battle for sweet tooth. I cannot say no to chocolates and cost me a lot of weight. When I started dieting, I struggled a lot to avoid chocolates. Until I used it to reward myself of doing good in my diet. Every meal I try to cut my calories to 200 and then eat a small bar of about 25 calorie chocolates as my compensation. It didn't only make me feel good about dieting but it made ma happy. I looked forward to it all the time until I realized that I have stopped eating chocolates . It took me 2 months to finish a big bar (200g) of Cadbury dark chocolate when it used to take me 3 days to eat them all up. I hope this helps our fellow dieters

You are absolutely right mikaela, it does help with the sweet tooth. I have tried this but with ice cream! I was crazy over ice cream before that I couldn't stop. As much as I love eating it to load my bones with calcium, I didn't like how it made me gain weight. So what I did was I focused on eating only one flavor of ice cream after each meal until it lost it's magic on me LOL. Now I can say no to ice cream without feeling bad that I did

I think I have avoided other sweets except for chocolates and I don't think I'll ever get tired of eating it . My mom told me that my grandma is diebetic so I had to cut down my sweets just to be safe. It wasn't easy but definitely possible to steer clear from sweets. What I did was I ate different brands of dark chocolates everytime I have the craving to eat other sweets. I could eat that same brand for awhile and try another one once I get used to its taste. If it doesn't work, I just brush my teeth to make any sweet food taste bitter. Works like a charm

Increase your protein intake because often our bodies will exhibit cravings for sweets when what they really need is more protein. You can also replace your sweets with fruits. Every time you want to eat something sweet, reach for apple, grapes, or berries. It's what I normally do when I really need something sweet and it works all the time

That's a great addition Viktoria! I just read that sugar cravings can signal that you aren’t feeding your body properly in other ways. You maybe stressed, sleep deprived, or dehydrated. Caffeine crashes and plain hunger go hand in hand with sugar cravings as well. Sugar has addictive properties so the sooner the avoid the, the better it is for your health.

That is really possible because I do notice that I crave for more food and sweets when I am stressed. I also notice that when I crave for sweets, I am hungry so I drink ice cold water instead. When it's my time of the month and I crave for sweets, which women normally do, I reach for grapes instead or cranberries which is better because the sugar content is natural and it's always good for as long as you have them in moderation.

Good tip kathy. Well if I cannot stop myself from craving chocolates during my period, I go for dark chocolates. I particularly love cadbury dark chocolate and 6 squares only contain 130 calories. I only eat one square each day when I crave so it doesn't really hurt the belly and the hips too much. You can also bake your own chocolate brownies using wheat flour, and small amount of sugar. If you just eat a small portion you'll still be good.

Fruit soothes my sweet craving...usually a nice ripe pear as they seem to have an almost 'candy' sweetness compared to other fruits.

I agree. Fruits are better options if you want to satisfy your sweet tooth. Natural sugar is better than eating sweets using refined sugar. I have recently been craving for grapes instead of having any dessert but I avoid eating a lot because it is high in sugar and also not good. So what I do is I put them in the freezer so I can only eat as much. It's like eating a popsicle. It's really satisfying and I can't imagine eating a non frozen grapes anymore

Really? I haven't tried that yet. I eat a lot of grapes too. It's one of my favorite fruits and I always have them in my fridge. I'll surely try freezing grapes and see how it tastes
