    Hi everyone,

I took off 200 lbs using the Durham Clinic's Rice diet and have maintained my loss for 3 years. Lately I've been struggling with the 10 lb leeway I've allowed myself and I realize it's because I lack a support group so here I am. I'm a clinical psychologist with a very busy practice but needed to find a way to keep active on my schedule so I became a certified Zumba instructor and teach 4 classes a week at a Senior Center. It forces me to work out at least 4 times a week and, since I do it for free, I don't have to pay rental fees for the space...win/win.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Thanks Kathy and Mikaela...yes, 200 pounds and some days I can't even believe it. I should correct myself though. I said I took 200 pounds off with the Rice Diet, but the first 100 pounds (a little over) was through Atkins. The last 100 was through the Rice Diet.

When I look at old pics in my family album (not that I allowed people to take that many), my mouth drops open because I honestly never saw myself as that big and I can't believe that my short little legs were capable of hauling it around on a daily basis.

Yeah 200lbs is unbelievable. You should be very proud of yourself because not everyone have that perseverance to lose that much weight. When I lost about 20lbs it was very difficult because it means eating and lifestyle change which is not easy at all. It was a struggle and sometimes I give in to eating the foods that I used to enjoy but in moderation otherwise I will have to exercise twice as hard

I think losing 20 lbs can be just as difficult as losing 200. First, my first 100 pounds came off quickly (10 months I think). The closer someone is to their goal weight, the harder it is to lose even 1 lb because the difference in caloric requirements to maintain say 140 isn't very different from that needed to maintain 120. It means you have to retain tighter control on the calories you eat *and* exercise becomes even more important. Even then, the weight loss will be slower. So, yes, I had a lot to lose *but* I probably had more positive scale moments.

You should be very proud of yourself CellarElf! When I lost a lot of weight, it was not that hard at first because it was all water weight. After losing about 10lbs though, it was indeed slower and I had to double my exercise which was a little difficult. I have been exercising everyday now because I gained a little weight during the summer . It's more fulfilling now because I have learned to stay away from junk foods without feeling bad

Wow you should be very proud of yourself. My weight loss has been very difficult and slow now that I have and lost all the water weight. I need more motivation to keep exercising and continue with my weight loss so I came here. Losing all those unwanted weight must be very difficult. Congratulations!

I was really impressed when I read CellarElf's story because I have lost about 16lbs now and it's not easy. I have to exercise everyday and control my portions. Sometimes when I feel so tired from work and want to eat comfort foods I cannot enjoy them until I am happy because I have to think of my progress and worry that I will ruin it. I also cannot pass exercising because I need to burn some calories. These are the things I consider everyday that makes it a little difficult to carry on but reading the member's stories here make me want to do better. Hope you guys also feel the same way
