Smile Hello! New dieter with a big goal :)

    Hello everyone, I'm Ryan.

I'm 6'3" and 273 lbs - almost none of which is muscle - so I really want to drop some weight. Recently I watched one of my friends lose over 100lbs in just a year which really inspired me. I don't know if I'll lose it quite that fast, but every time I see an old picture of my friend I still can't believe it's the same person.

I started dieting at the start of this week and haven't cheated yet. I know it's only the first week of many, but I'm sticking to this and I thought having a community to share experiences with would be a great motivator to keep me to it. So far I haven't done anything too complicated with my diet, I've just seriously cut back calorie intake and have cut out sweetened drinks altogether (this wasn't hard though, there's lots of other drinks like milk or vegetable juices that I like and I don't like regular soda anymore anyway).

I cross-checked about 6 different calorie calculators when I started, and came out with the result that I should stick to around 2300 calories/day to lose 2 lbs/week (will obviously drop calorie count as weight drops). What surprises me though is that these calculators also estimated my maintenance calorie count at about 3300, meaning I've already cut about 1000 calories out of my daily diet (I've been this weight for a long time so I've probably been floating around that maintenance count). The crazy thing is that I haven't even felt especially hungry doing this and I didn't even ease myself into it - I cut those calories cold turkey basically. I realize this is only the first week so it could get tougher, but maybe I am just lucky

My goal is to get down to 180 lbs eventually. I don't know how long that will take, but that's my goal. Looking forward to reading about everyone else's experiences and I hope that I can be helpful to this forum and maybe someday be an inspiration to others like my friend was to me.
