    I read an article from DaVita.com about kidney friendly foods that you can include in your kidney diet:

    1. Red bell peppers

    1/2 cup serving of red bell pepper contains 88 mg potassium, 10 mg phosphorus and 1 mg sodium. This is an excellent source of folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and fiber . It also contains antioxidants which helps protect against cancers.

    2. Cabbage

    1/2 cup serving of green cabbage has 60 mg potassium, 9 mg phosphorus and 6 mg sodium. This is also a good source of vitamin B6 vitamin C, vitamin K, fiber and folic acid.

    3. Cauliflower

    1/2 cup serving of boiled cauliflower contains 88 mg potassium, 20 mg phosphorus and 9 mg sodium. It's also high in vitamin C, folate and fiber.

    4. Garlic

    1 clove of garlic has 12 mg potassium, 4 mg phosphorus and 1 mg sodium. Garlic is known to help reduce cholesterol levels and reduces inflammation.

    5. Apples

    1 medium sized apple (with skin) contains 158 mg potassium, 10 mg phosphorus and 0 sodium. It also helps prevent constipation, reduce cholesterol and reduce risk of heart disease and cancer.

    6. Cranberries

    1/2 cup serving of cranberry juice cocktail has 22 mg potassium, 3 mg phosphorus and 3 mg sodium

    1/2 cup serving of dried cranberries contains 24 mg potassium and 5 mg phosphorus and 2 mg sodium
    1/4 cup serving of cranberry sauce has 6 mg phosphorus, 17 mg potassium and 35 mg sodium,

    Cranberries are known to help protect against bladder infections and prevent bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall.

    7. Blueberries

    1/2 cup serving of fresh blueberries contains 65 mg potassium, 7 mg phosphorus and 4 mg sodium. It's also a good source of manganese (helps keep bones healthy), vitamin C, fiber, and helps protect brain from effects of aging.

    8. Onions

    1/2 cup serving of onion contains 116 mg potassium, 3 mg phosphorus and 3 mg sodium. It's also an excellent source of flavonoids which helps reduce risk of heart disease and helps prevent certain cancers.

    9. Raspberries

    1/2 cup serving of raspberries contains 93 mg potassium, 7 mg phosphorus and 0 mg sodium. It's also high in vitamin C, B vitamin manganese, fiber and folate. It also has properties that inhibit tumor formation and cancer cell growth.

    10. Strawberries

    1/2 cup serving of medium sized fresh strawberries contains 120 mg potassium, 13 mg phosphorus and 1 mg sodium. It's also high in vitamin C, fiber and manganese, which are known to protect the heart, prevent cancer and inflammation.

    11. Cherries

    1/2 cup serving of fresh sweet cherries has 0 160 mg potassium, 15 mg phosphorus and mg sodium. If eaten daily, it will help reduce inflammation. Cherries also contains phytochemicals and antioxidants that helps protect the heart.

    12. Red grapes

    1/2 cup serving of red grapes contains 88 mg potassium, 4 mg phosphorus and 1 mg sodium. It also contains flavonoids that helps protect against cancer and prevent inflammation.

    13. Egg whites

    2 egg whites contains 7 grams protein, 108 mg potassium, 10 mg phosphorus and 110 mg sodium.

    14. Fish

    3 ounces of wild salmon has 368 mg potassium, 274 mg phosphorus and 50 mg sodium. It's also an excellent source of omega-3s that help fight heart disease and cancer.

    15. Olive oil

    1 tablespoon of olive oil has less than 1 mg potassium, less than 1 mg sodium and 0 mg phosphorous. It also contains oleic acid, which helps protect against inflammation.

    Wow!! This is really helpful. Thanks for sharing this mikaela.. So kidney diet should be low in sodium and potassium right?

    I agree. It's hard to find a list of foods that kidney sufferers can it so this is very helpful..
