Default Looking into gastric bypass lapband surgery.?

I´ve noticed most people who are obese and qualify either through lap or gastric bypass lose weight through surgery. I´ve done quite a bit of research looking for people who have lost ¨naturally¨ and I keep running into mainly success stories after surgery. Some people seem to have lost some weight through Weight Watchers, but do they keep it off? Who knows. I´m not sure if I eventually want to do surgery if I keep gaining the way I have been. I was wondering if there is anybody out there who has lost a very significant amount of weight by diet and exercise--long term. I mean 75-100+ lbs. I am starting to come the conclusion that, for some people, it? almost impossible to lose weight and keep it off permanently.
Yeah, but Debbie isn´t my real name. har har.

I had the lapband and it did work but if I were you, I might want to try a Living Foods diet first, it will not only help you lose weight but it will also help you heal from any ailments that you may have. Check it out it's cheaper and safer then surgery. http://www.tanishamarshall.com or http://www.alissacohen.com

I don't understand why someone would say I'm a bastard when I've had the surgery, I didnt' say it was bad but I wish I would have checked out other options first. Also think about the long term if you ever decide you want it out you have to have two surgeries, also no matter what surgery you get, if your mind isn't ready to change you will be the same person, I ate snickers and all kinds of junk, I think it's more important to know how to eat then having something that restrict your intake while you eat all of the junk you want. I hope you make the right decision, I just thought I would share my thoughts with you.

I have used weight watchers since 2000. I have lost over 60 pounds. I still have a little ways to go to meet my goal. The thing that I like best about weight watchers is that you are accountable for the weight you gain or lose. No one breaks out a whip if you gain, they just give you encouragement to try harder. Keeping weight off is a challenge. And I am trying to increase my activity level. One of the reasons that I have gained some weight in the last year 13 lbs is because I had knee surgery and have not been as active as normal but that is about to change. I don't mean for this come out the wrong way but I think gastric bypass and that band thing is a cop out. Weight loss can be achieved by using self control and making better choices. And on top of that some people have the surgery and go back to their old habits and regain the weight. Even Oprah did a show on it. Best of luck.

Im sorry the first person who answered you was such a bastard. It's great that you're doing so much research into all this.

First I think it's totally possible for you! Though for some people it's just not so easy as 'eat less, move more' it's a lot more to do with the mind, and why for instance, a person might over eat.

It might sound drastic, but talking to a psychologist really helped me figure things out, and to work through issues I had, and to find out really why I was punishing myself with food. I wasnt living my life, I wasn't really present in the here and now and would starve myself all day, thinking that's the way to go and the binge at night.

It's also about making changes to your lifestyle that you really can continue to do.. forever! Like a walk every Tuesday morning, or whatever you can and like to do.

I've had a close friend, who did the surgery, and it stopped her from bingeing on bread, hot chips and cakes, but she didn't lose any weight at all, infact put more on, as she still binged on sugar instead. It's not a quick fix.

I think that's one thing that helped me, is really realise theres no diets. None that will help if you're looking for long term healthy living. You can't continue to live in a restricted diet, it has to be something maintainable.

I could write for hours, but email me if you like, I noticed you're email thing was 'disabled'. And I'll give you my proper email and we can chat!

Before you take the extreme measure of lapband surgery, I think a person really needs to be honest with themselves and make sure they have sincerely done everything they can possible do to lose weight naturally and it has been unsuccessful.

Weight Watchers works because they "teach" portion control through their points system -- that really is the bottom line on Weight Watchers. It is really just common sense.

You may not be interested in reading any more books, but I was able to lose 40 lbs after reading a book "Fit for Life" written by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. For me their method "clicked" but, again, it was common sense. Not everyone is disciplined enough to do it. No sugar, no flour (rice, pasta, bread, etc.), no desserts, fried foods, no red meat. I ate lots of green salads with baked chicken and had all the fresh fruit and fresh fruit juice I wanted, lots of tea/water (or water with Crystal Light ) and I consistently lost 2 lbs per week until the weight came off. Snacks were fruit, raisins, nuts. When I saw my weight creeping back up, I would go back on salads + chicken, fish and my weight would come back down. For me, bread, rice and desserts are the big triggers that keep weight on; but, really, no food tastes as good as the feeling you get to see the weight coming off consistently. I weighed daily, and the weight came off like clockwork until I got down to a healthy weight. Several people at work -- I later heard -- thought I was on a liquid diet.

Someone I know is using the Cabbage Soup Diet. She loves it and has lost a lot of weight, but I have tried to do that and can't. It makes me feel like I am starving to death. I prefer salads and protein. You just need to find a method that works for you and adopt a mindset that weight loss is possible for you naturally.

Before surgery, please ask yourself, have you tried everything you can? Have you really tried to change your lifestyle? Are you eating healthy foods? Are you an emotional eater (like me)? Are you drinking too many calories? Are you honestly exercising regularly (like 5x per week)? Are you willing to make some permanent sacrifices -- in diet and exercise -- to lose weight?
