Default Is there any real help for a person who is addicted to food?

personally i always need to have something to chew on myself and thus reach for the fridge..but if there's nothing there then oh well, i just get back to work.
just don't buy so much..or buy healthy foods- take a friend shopping with you so that they can help control impuse buys.
set some goals as to eat less every day..little by little..there's really no way to control yourself in this situation unless you only buy food that you don't quite like,
it's a will power really..and if you have none, get a friend/roomate or someone who can slap your food from your hand when you're tempted.

You first should look into the 12 step programs, mainly Overeaters Anonymous. I'd drop into AA sometimes, just to hear how people can become addicted to something. I'd substitute food in place of the word alcohol, but the behaviors are all the same. Obsessing over food and then compulsively eating. When I felt bad, I wanted to feel good, and any addiction would work, but food was the most enjoyable for me. Once I looked at my compulsive behaviors, and realized that even the TV ads, and cookbooks, and cooking magazines coming into my home were tempting me, I realized my drug of choice was/is food. I'm no better than a drunk; no worse than one...I just need to look at my problem and then do something about it.

Lapband surgery won't fix what is making you sad. Learning to deal with life's problems, from the past or now, is the only way to get healthy and make good choices. I sometimes go over this phrase when tempted: Am I feeling Hurried, Angry, Lonely, or Tired. If I am any of those (HALT) then I have to take care of that...hurried, then slow down; angry, find out what hurt you, lonely, call a friend, or tired, take a nap. This stops acting out for me.
Good luck. And bless you that you know this is more than a spa issue. Love yourself, and try an AA program. You don't have to speak up, just listen to their stories. I always sat in the back, but learned so much. Have a great day. You can do this!! But, if nothing changes, nothing changes.

Hi, i think the problem here is actually in you mind. Only you can adress this issue, If your eating to much its clearly a comfort thing, i tend to eat allot when i find myself bored or unhappy. I think you need to take a look at your lifestyle, friendship groups and hobbys. If you had somehting new that you could be doing or somehting that you enjoy you wouldnt be eating as much. Theres lots of clubs out there and its a great way to meet people. A tummy tuck or somehting similar isnt the answer its the lazy way out and its costly. Plus if you loose it "manualy" you would have somehitng to be proud of. hope this helps and all the best. Your the answer that your looking for.

There are some websites online you might want to check out. They offer help, advice and support from others who have the same issues. I would really check it out, I have spoken to a few people with the same issue and they said it really helped them.
    Good Luck

The only way I know is "Overeaters Anonymous". You don't go on any diets, unless you decide to, and slowly change the way you act. I'm retired now, but the hardest thing I ever did was quit drinking in AA, 22 years ago. No one has to drink, dope, gamble, etc, but I really take my hat off to OAs who eat every day and still never go overboard. Try it, it's free, and nobody waves any flags or has any axes to grind.
