Default Has anyone had LapBand surgery in the last year?

I know there are other questions like this, but they are 1-2 years old. Please let me know. I am 5'4" and 310lbs. I have gone on the LapBand website and my friend who works at a hospital (and has seen the bad effects of gastric bypass) says she hasnt really seen anything from this and a co-worker's niece had it and said she is doing well. Please, only positive, helpful answers. Thanks!

I know several people, and all had some success. I don't know any long term patients.
there is a program now that evaluates the patient, teaches about the surgery, and one even makes you lose some weight, to prove you are serious. Much better than the old mylar band/staple surgery, there was no teaching, and just a medical work-up.

If you want the facts and not just opinions from random people, read this

    http://www.core.monash.org/assets/documents/research-papers/2002-18.pdf

It is a study of over 700 people who had the surgery 2-6 years earlier. Page 5 has the weight loss data. Pretty much they show that over the first 2 years you will lose about half your excess weight and keep it off.
