    Default whats the best exercise?

Well I have decided I want to get fit...and want to see what I can do on my own without having to have the lapband or anyother form of surgrey! I am VERY over weight (alomst 300 lbs. and only 22) I have decided to walk and run everyday, atleast a mile hopefully 2 miles a day. What are other exercises I can do, or any other suggestions? Even though I am very over weight I have been this way most of my life, and have played sports all my life, so yes I can run and do other very strenuous activities! Please give me some suggestions!
also I live in a rural area...and there really isn't any gyms that are within 50-60 miles from my home and work!

Do some weight training as they burn alot of fat and build lean muscle. go to a gym and start off slowly and get advise from a personal trainer. or beginners start off with:
Mon: chest exercises with 15 min cardio and abs.
Tue: back exercise with 15 min cardio
    Wed: legs and abs
    Thur: shoulder cardio 15min
Fri: biceps and triceps 15 min cardio
    Sat and Sun rest day

Don't worry about gym, if you don't have one in your area.......

Lots of people think that they can only start to lose weight and become healthy when they're in the gym......

    How wrong!

The straight fact is- just start off on your own, like what you've decided to do - walk or run everyday.

Kudos to your decision and positive attitude in wanting to address your weight problem!

Walk/run for 1-2 miles per day and see your body's response to the regime. Gradually increase the mileage of run or walk when you're stronger, but keep to 60-min per session, daily.

When you've strated to lose fat and then weight, reduce your frequency of running/walking to 4-5 times per week, for 60 mins per session.

Besides walking/running, I suggest you strength-train with weights as well.

This exercise boosts your muscle growth and as muscle is metabolically active meaning it stimulates your metabolism, the more muscle you've, the higher your metabolism, so you get to burn off even more calories, to lose weight.

Strength-train with lighter weights first, then gradually increase your weight. Do it 3-4 times per week, 10-15 mins per session.

On top of these two exercises, eating a well-balanced, healthy, weight-loss nutritious diet is a must too.

In addition to these fantastic suggestions here, it makes it much easier to watch what you eat by using computer software to track your caloric habits. You may want to check something like that out.

i think you are on the right track, walking and running are gd but always found running could get hard on the knees. You might want to add a indoor stationary bike or something so if the weather is bad you have no excuse not to keep it up.
