Thread: Will I loose my baby??

First visit to my doctor, ultrasound showed 4 to 5 weeks pregnancy and they saw a yolk inside gestational sac. I was also put on progestron supplement and levels went were over 24. Last week I went to the doctor and he saw a fetal pole and he estimated I was between 5 to 6 weeks. But my HCG level came down from 27000 to 24000. .
My doctor said I should be ready for abortion any time. Is he right?

i am sorry for your situation but i haven't ever experenced this nor anyone i know but just put it in gods hands and let whatever happens happen because there is a reason for everything. i know it is hard but think postively. good luck and again i will pray for you and the baby.

Were you planning an abortion ? What kind of doctor says something like that if you aren't.

Cat i think she meant that the doc said that the baby is going to abort on his/her own. Not that she is having an abortion.
Anyways, you cant always judge by that, so i would just say relax and take it easy, the more stress on your body the worse it will be. Take Care, and I will pray for you and your baby!

hcg levels going down is ALWAYS a bad thing.

However, there is always the (slim) possibility of one of the two tests being a mistake.

At a minimum, you'll need to wait and get anther ultrasound in about a week. Obviously the baby should be 6 to 7 weeks. If it's still 5 to 6, THEN you will definintely know.

But given the odds are low that the hcg levels are inaccurate, you obviously have to prepare yourself for the worst.

(Sorry I can't be more positive... been there, done that, pretty much sucks).

I would agree that the doctor was trying to say that you need to (mentally) prepare yourself for what he expects to be a miscarriage, but he doesn't have enough evidence to know for sure because the baby has still shown growth from last week.

But unfortunately, the only situation that comes to mind where hcg levels could go down but the baby be ok is if you were carrying twins and only one of them miscarried. But since you've already had multiple ultrasounds, if there were a twin, I would expect them to have already seen it at that 5 to 6 week period.

So I guess all hope is not lost, but again, you still have to prepare yourself for the worst.

same thing happened to me, but my baby is fine i am 33 weeks pregnant now. but you may have some bleeding for a month or so...

normally the only reason hormone level drop is because you are going to have a miscarriage(or abortion in Dr terms). Some people are lucky enough to carry the pregnancy but doctors will tell you to be prepared just incase. If you prepare yourself for it they think it won't be quite so hard.

If your hcg level is falling then it means you will miscarry. It happened to me with my 2nd pregnancy. Sometimes your levels can go down a bit and then back up. Get your doctor to do another hcg level and see what happens.

Did your doctor say you might miscarry soon? Maybe that's what he means that you should be ready for an abortion. OK, do not be discouraged, it could be nothing. Some people go on to have a normal pregnancy even when the doctors say these kind of things. Stay calm, and if you experience any bleeding, go to the doctor immediately.
