Default P90X - need advise getting started :(

I'm trying to get myself up to shape with P90X DVD. So far I found that I don't have enough strength to carry through their workout. 20 minutes into their 1 hour session is the best I could do and that left me complete soar the next day that I have to take a break.

I'm completely overweight and really want to get back in shape with this program

I was thinking that I would try to stick my way thought with P90X. Take a break when needed and repeat the first month schedule for a while until I can complete the whole thing the way it's supposed to... Will that work? Or would switching to something else before I come back to P90X a better idea?

P90X is a strenuous form of exercise but a very powerful one too. I don't think that you should try that yet. I suggest you try a simple and easier workout routine and get back with P90X once you feel that your body can tolerate it.

I definitely agree with you mikaela. P90X is definitely not for beginners. Eat a more balanced diet and look for heathier alternatives that has lower calorie count and you will lose weight. Burn more pounds by exercising regularly and to also avoid your skin from sagging. That was one part I missed doing before and I didn't like how my skin looked. I'm getting back on track now and making sure that I exercise everyday and continue to eat right.

I am no expert on this workout but I read so many articles about this. P90X is a new workout that is not fit for beginners and even for some people who workout everyday because it is very challenging. It's concentration is to build muscle confusion by adding together exercises to stop your muscles from getting used to the same routines. It however uses lots of push ups using a gear. This gives the body upper body strength and burns fats around the chest. Push ups also increases the blood supply to the chest which is great as it gets rid of fat deposits around the blood vessels. I suggest you go for a less advanced workout first before you try P90X

I read in a few articles as well that if you aim for all-around fitness or to just get back in shape, this could be the ideal program for you if you really follow the program as instructed. For begginers though, you may find this very difficult. It is built around 12 different workouts which are a combination of strength, flexibility and cardio training. These 12 components are: Chest & Back; Plyometrics (Jump Training); Shoulders & Arms; Yoga; Legs & Back; Kenpo (karate); Stretching; Core Synergistics (strengthens the core muscles); Chest, Shoulders & Triceps; Back & Biceps; Cardio and Abs. Most of the workouts take about 45-60 minutes. This is exhausting and I don't think this is the work out for dieters who are over weight and just starting to get back on track. Look for other options. I'm sure you'll find one that will fit your needs.

Try a less backbreaking workout routine jpenguin. You'll be alright with a regular form of exercise as long as you do it regularly and you avoid junk and fast foods. If you cannot finish the 45-60 minutes routine, that means that your body cannot take it anymore. It will be safer for you to get back to it when you are fitter. Go for other cardio and strength exercises. Good luck and I hope this helps

Thank you very much! So I guess I should find some other way to get myself started before P90X. Any DVD you can recommend?

I researched some good cardio DVDs and I read some good words on Cardio Fusion DVD and Turbo Jam. This may help. I am really not good on routines and workout DVDs because I am not into one. I just jog and power walk and it's enough for me
