Default Japanese diet..??

This is for an experiment i'm hoping to try out.

Basically, i need to know what kind of food the japanese eat, on a daily basis... like what kind of foods for breakfast, lunch....etc.. throughout the day... compared to us in the west (i'm sure it's quite different!

If maybe you could link me to some good websites with recipes... or just tell me the kind of foods, what they (or you, if you're japanese) eat less of compared to us, and more of...etc
It would be a big help! on top of some research i'm doing myself.

Japanese eat a lot more fish. Despite all the mumbo jumbo you hear about mercury levels being high in fish etc, Japanese seem to do just fine with it. Maybe its fish in other countries that is more polluted.

The Japanese pallet is as varied as any western pallet.

Japanese breakfast can range from Miso soup with rice and fish with tea, to toast, eggs and coffee.

Ramen noodles (not your cup of noodle or bag ramen you heat up at home) but real ramen made at a store with all the fixings.
Anything sea food, fish, prawns(shrimp) etc are big.
Try out tempura. with Japanese rice.
Of course so is beef, steak, chicken etc.

It is not just what they eat it is what they do on a daily basis as well.
They don't sit on their butts all day in cars, they walk, use public transit, all those stairs in train stations provide a good workout, also walking to/from home or riding a bike to/from home to get to mentioned public transit. And walking to/from the office/school from said public transit stations.

you have to remember that today's Japan is as sophisticated as any other fine country in the world. Although the everyday meals remain fairly constant, the influence of French and Western Culture have made for as diverse a pallete as any other country.

Traditionally rice, fish and noodle dishes.

Modern lifestyle is more western so theres a more diverse range of food available.

Just like everyone around the world, people's diets vary a bit. One thing my family and I noticed is that the Denny's menu carry's a good mix of western and Japanese menus. The breakfast menus are interesting with good examples of western and Japanese breakfasts.

Many people like to eat beef bowls, this is ususally a bowl of rice topped with shredded beef.

A good cross section of what foods are eaten can be seen in a Bentou box, or Japanese box lunch. Bento boxes are sold everywhere and are usually prepared with the items that people like to eat.

We stop by the Origin Bento store often.

sushi can still be high in calories, but you can have sashimi instead
