Default Are South African beaches still packed over the festive season?

Lise, I had some good laughs when living in Durban. It use to crack me up when the people got stuck with their expensive 4x4 vehicles on the beach and sturdy "boertannie" and the children had to push. Sometimes there were even a few stuck at the same time. Me and my friends used to bet how long it would take them to get out.

Yes Darth .......it is actually terrible for people like us living at the coast, there are hundreds of Valies and Free Staters everywhere. Every Tom Dick and Harry has a fishing rod and gaff, turning all the rocks over looking for octopus and bait....catching every baby fish they can. I hate it, no parking anywhere, long queues everywhere......every one catching a tan....with big melanomas lurking on their bodies. Well New Years day no one with some common sense goes near the beach....people flock then for some or over reason by their thousands to the beach, one life saver for every 50 000 person. so ja, next year I think we must rather go to the Berg Kwagga Park in Cradock for some peace and quiet.

Yes it was, particularly Durban, according to news reports it was relatively quiet with a lot less violence, crime and lost kids - thanks to a strong and visible police presence
